Grandmother’s condition finally stabilized after two weeks. The doctors said the treatment worked better than expected.
With that weight off my chest, I started fulfilling the “accompany to events” clause in the contract.
Chuck took me to a business gala. Amy was there too, in a fiery red gown. When she saw me, her eyes went red, and she charged over with a wine glass.
“Beth Scott, you bitch! You stole my place!”
She smashed the glass against my chest. Red wine soaked my dress instantly.
Gasps rippled through the crowd—everyone waiting for me to make a fool of myself. I pulled out a tissue and dabbed at the stain slowly, then smiled up at Amy. “Amy, you look like a clown right now. Chuck doesn’t want you anymore. Throwing a fit won’t change that.”
“Liar!” She shrieked, lunging to tear my hair, but Chuck shoved her back.
“Security, see this lady out.” His voice was icy. ”She’s banned from all my events, permanently.”
As security dragged her away, Amy screamed curses. “Beth Scott
