Lila lowered her gaze, letting out a bitter chuckle. "While you were away, I had a lot of time to think. Our marriage was never something either of us truly wanted. So if we separate, we're just going back to how things were. I was nothing more than a child raised by your family."
Panic flashed across his face. "Lila, how can you say that? We're husband and wife. I love you—how could we go back to where we started?"
