As he watched Lila turn to leave, his body moved on instinct. He stood up, ready to follow her.
But she glanced back and said, "Don't do this." Just one sentence and Kieran froze.
He could only watch as she walked away, unable to move, unable to chase after her.
Lila was gone. Vermilion Estate was empty now, leaving Kieran alone.
He wandered through the house, circling the downstairs before heading upstairs, checking every room, one by one. Then he stepped outside, walking aimlessly through the yard.
Everywhere he looked, traces of her remained.
This house had been built for her. But now, she had left.
Kieran sat on the front steps for the entire day.
The scorching sun beat down on him, burning his skin, but he never moved. Not until the golden hues of sunset stretched across the sky.
