Chapter 100: Nothing’s Working

Maximus paced the room like a caged animal, his steps heavy with frustration, while Leonardo nursed a drink, trying to drown the ache that no amount of liquor could erase. Everything was spiraling out of control. They could see it—feel it—like an approaching storm they were powerless to stop. Every effort slipped through their fingers like grains of sand, leaving behind only a haunting sense of helplessness.
Something was wrong with Maya. They both knew it.
But what could they do? How could they pull her out of the darkness when it seemed to have consumed her entirely?
Maximus stopped abruptly, his fists clenching at his sides before he raked his fingers through his hair. "We have to do something, Leo," he said, his voice breaking with frustration. He pressed a hand to his mouth, as though trying to hold himself together. "We can't just sit here and watch her disappear. She’s becoming someone else—someone she never was."
