Chapter 193 Second Chance at Life

Elaine's shove caused the thermometer in Marcus' hand to fall to the floor. She stopped in her tracks and glanced back upon hearing the sound and then said apologetically, "I'm sorry, Dr. Middleton." Marcus intended to say something, but eventually found himself at a loss for words. Elaine had already bolted before he could say anything. He noticed the sunlight streaming in through the window, but he suddenly felt that the temperature indoors was even more frigid than it had been when it had snowed a few days ago. It was winter, after all, and with its arrival, everything felt distant and cold. Elaine ran out of the hospital ward and saw two of Skylar's bodyguards, plus Joseph, who had just arrived. What really took her by surprise, though, was the sight of two police officers standing there as well. Skylar's past habit of playing the victim and involving the police to force her to come back made Elaine instinctively feel a sense of dread upon seeing them. She remained rooted in t
