Elaine turned to see Joseph walking toward her outside the private room. He approached, stopping one step away from her, and waited for her response.
She thought she'd misheard and only spoke after a moment. "Mr. Montgomery, what did you just say?"
Joseph's gaze was filled with amusement as he carefully studied her face. "You've really changed a lot. If Mr. Scott hadn't basically tipped me off last night, I might have had a hard time recognizing you."
Elaine showed a confused smile, though it looked stiff. She asked, "Tipped you off about what?"
Joseph calmly took another step closer. When Elaine instinctively wanted to step back, he didn't crowd into her personal space. Instead, he stood beside her, looking out the floor-to-ceiling window.
