CHAPTER 16
The meeting with the Elders had just ended. The heavy doors to the council chamber closed shut behind Zayne as he stepped out into the hallway. His shoulders were tight with the usual tension that came from dealing with politics and territory disputes.
He rubbed the back of his neck. His mind was already drifting elsewhere—back to Eva.
She’d been in his thoughts more often than he cared to admit. Her scent, her smile, the fire in her eyes. There was something about her that made his wolf restless. He kept craving her presence like oxygen. She was everything he didn’t know he needed.
He had just reached the corridor when a guard came towards him
“Alpha Zayne!” The guard was panting. “I have an observation. Zoe and the Luna, Eva—they haven’t returned. They left the compound earlier this afternoon, said it was just a short errand into town. But it’s getting dark and they’re not back. We’ve tried calling them but there's no response.”
Zayne’s heart dropped. “What?”
