CHAPTER 35
There was silence in the hall just after Leah kissed Zayne’s cheek. The crowd still hadn’t recovered from the confusing spectacle of the Luna-binding ritual. The golden goblet still rested in Zayne’s hand.
But then it happened.
Zayne’s entire body stiffened violently. His eyes widened, filled with a sharp and sudden pain that struck him deep in the chest. His knees buckled. His breathing became shallow. The goblet fell to the floor.
Then came the scream.
It wasn’t from his mouth. It tore from his soul.
His chest became filled with unbearable agony, the kind no blade or poison could ever match. He clutched at his heart, gasping. The room spun. Everyone stared in confusion. Some people stepped back. Others whispered frantically.
