By the time Angelina snapped out of her fright at the trash can, Lucien was already gone.
She quickly got out of the car, looking around in confusion. "Lucien? Where did you go?"
It was already the middle of the night. Only two streetlights were lit nearby.
The pale light stretched just far enough to reveal the morgue sign up ahead, its white letters glowing eerily in the darkness.
Even though it was a summer night, Angelina felt a chill climb down her spine.
She grabbed her phone in a hurry to make a call-only for Lucien's ringtone to go off inside the car.
Angelina froze.
The phone was still here... but he wasn't.
Her heart skipped a beat. She forced herself to call out twice more.
Only her own echo bounced back in the empty parking lot.
She couldn't take it anymore. Panic setting in, she dove back into the car and sped off from the hospital, hands shaking as she called 911.
