Their eyes locked, and the rage in Lucien's gaze was almost tangible.
"I'll give you ten million. Walk away from Calliope," he said coldly, like he was tossing out some grand act of charity from above.
Conrad just stared at him and suddenly let out a short laugh. "Lucien, your wounds might not be healed yet, but sounds like your brain gave up way earlier."
Lucien's face darkened. "You really think I can't shut down your pathetic fire station tomorrow if I want?"
Conrad raised a brow lazily and strolled into the elevator.
"Go on. Give it a shot," he said casually.
As the two passed each other, Conrad's arm bumped squarely into Lucien's without missing a beat.
"But just so you know-messing with my wife? Bad idea. Seriously bad."
The elevator doors closed slowly.
Lucien let out a grunt of pain as Conrad's shoulder crashed into his still-recovering ribs. It hit right where the bones had just been set. The flare of pain made him double over, drenched in sweat.
