Calliope withdrew her gaze and gave a polite nod to her senior brothers and sister. "Elias, Gabriel, Miranda."
Elias smiled warmly at her.
Gabriel was just about to speak when Miranda let out a cold snort and beat him to it.
With a sideways glance at Calliope, she sneered, "Don't be fooled by a pretty face and a wealthy background. Some of you clearly are."
The words were sharp, like a slap in the face.
With a loud "clack," Gabriel slammed his teacup down on the stone table, splashing tea everywhere.
He was pissed.
"Miranda! Can you not be so damn rude?"
He glared at her, voice cutting. "Don't go projecting just because your husband ran off with some pretty little side chick. Not every good-looking woman is a homewrecker."
Miranda's face went ghost white. She shot to her feet, voice shrill. "Don't twist things around!"
"All of us here have followed Professor for years, worked our way up bit by bit. Even the youngest of us, got in fair and square through grad school!"
