She kept her head down, stirring the soup with a spoon, not daring to meet his eyes.
Conrad glanced at her flushed ears and the soft crown of her head, his gaze darkening just a little.
He couldn't help it-reached out and gently ruffled her hair.
"I'll go get some water. Take the meds in a bit."
With that, he stood and walked out, his tall figure taking the tension with him.
Calliope finally let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding.
After taking the medicine, she instinctively picked up her thesis.
But she'd barely read two lines before the paper was snatched clean out of her hands.
Conrad frowned. "Still sick and trying to work? Take a nap first."
"But I-"
She wanted to argue, but the moment she met those calm, piercing dark eyes of his, all her words got stuck in her throat.
Biting her lip, she quietly lay back down.
She thought she wouldn't fall asleep, but her eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and soon she was out cold.
