Two days after I'd made my decision to leave, Rachel called me to tell me to help with Arthur and Celeste's wedding preparations.
I still had things I had to do, so I refused. She had always been a gentle woman, so I didn't expect her to turn on me on the spot and criticize me.
"Not only did your family go bankrupt, but you couldn't even give Arthur a child. What makes you think you have the right to stop my son from marrying another woman?"
I didn't try to defend myself. Instead, I said, "He can marry anyone he wants. It's just that I've been quite busy recently."
Arthur never asked for my opinion before deciding to divorce me and marry someone else. I had no obligation to help him with his upcoming wedding.
Not wanting to listen to what else Rachel had to say, I disconnected the call.
