The high-speed train ride would take a little over four hours. Tara plugged in her earphones, letting the music soothe her frayed nerves.
Lance's call earlier had shaken her to the core. She couldn't relax right away.

The next morning, Betty knocked on Shawn's door. She entered at his "Come in," carrying three elegant gift bags. One of them looked familiar.
She placed the million-dollar necklace on the coffee table in front of him. "Mr. Wilhelm, Tara asked me to give this to you."
Betty didn't know what was inside. Tara had simply told her to deliver it.
Shawn glanced at the bag. "Is Tara off today?"
Betty wasn't surprised he didn't know Tara had quit. She was just a housekeeper, and he hadn't been involved in her dismissal.
"Tara already quit," Betty explained.
Shawn paused, his tone calm. "She quit?"
Betty nodded. "Yes, she left the villa last night and asked me to make sure you got this."
He was silent for a moment, then said, "I understand. You can go."
