After Maria finished speaking, she expected the man in front of her to argue with her. Instead, he gently placed his hand on her head.
"I understand. I know what you’re thinking, but I’m not that kind of person."
Hearing this, Maria suddenly felt uneasy.
"I-I didn’t mean it like that!"
Cruz calmly pointed toward the door.
"I’ve already taken care of the hotel surveillance, so nothing will get out. As for your mother, she passed away from a hemorrhage years ago; nothing else will affect her."
"But are you sure you don’t want to leave the country?"
Maria looked at Cruz and shook her head.
"I know you’re a good person, but everyone has to find their own path."
Cruz didn’t argue further. He nodded and turned to leave.
"I have to go on a business trip. Angela is safe now. If you need a place to stay, you can stay at my place. It’s secure."
