Timothy's eyes widened in disbelief. "What did you just say?"
The officer had no choice but to repeat himself. "We looked into it, and your marriage to Ms. Syrell has been officially dissolved. In other words, you're already divorced. You don't have the legal right to file a missing person's report for her."
"No way. There's no way I divorced Tessa. You must've made a mistake and confused her with someone else!"
He kept shaking his head, refusing to leave, insisting the police had it wrong. But deep down, the moment he heard those words, panic had already set in. For some reason, he thought the officer might be telling the truth.
