CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR – A WILD CHASE
The engine sputtered to life, and with a screech of tires, she careened after Louisa. Ethan and Kyle, left behind on the burning street, watched in disbelief as Madison disappeared into the darkness.
Louisa, meanwhile, was reveling in her twisted sense of victory. She sang a manic tune to herself, a warped lullaby celebrating the destruction of Johnny's "betrayer." The police sirens blaring in the distance seemed a distant echo in her deranged mind.
Suddenly, headlights appeared in her rearview mirror, growing larger with each passing second. A wave of annoyance washed over her. Some impatient fool, she thought. But as the car drew closer, recognition dawned on her. It was Madison, her face a mask of fury as she aggressively tailgated Louisa.
A deranged giggle escaped Louisa's lips. "Playing catch, are we?" she crooned, swerving wildly across lanes. Madison, determined, matched her every move. Their cars weaved through deserted streets, a twisted game of high-speed chicken.
