Chapter 11
Charlie wanted to barge into the room to confront Bella. But after a second thought, he stopped.
He realized that whatever she had said couldn't have been meant for him. Swallowing his rage, he eased the door open by just a crack.
Inside, Bella was leaning against the headboard. Her face wore a smug expression that was unfamiliar to him as she spoke in a hushed voice over the phone.
"You think I don't want the Grant family's fortune? But this child isn't even Charlie's. It's too risky. If the truth came out after I gave birth to it, it would be a disaster.
"It's best to take this chance to get rid of it. That way, he'll feel guilty, and I won't have to deal with the hassle.
"I already have this face, and that's enough to guarantee me a life of luxury at his side. Now, with his guilt added to the mix, I'm set for life…"
When Bella spoke of the unborn child, there wasn't a trace of emotion in her voice. It was as if it were nothing more than a bargaining chip for wealth and status
