Trey hit the gas the second we were all in the SUV. As we sped away, I heard a furious roar in the distance. Ashton. Right on cue. But he was too late. His mate was mine now.
Let him scream. Let him rage. It won’t change anything.
Thanks to the Council’s ridiculous bureaucracy, I had time, at least five days before they would even consider letting him act. He knew the rules. No attacks between packs without formal mediation. That law was created because of Red Crescent’s last war, and now it worked in my favor.
By the time they arrive at Blackwood, this will be a done deal. We’ll have already worn them down with the sting of betrayal. Soon, their pride and confidence will crumble. I know how much that kind of pain can cut, I’ve felt it myself. Kayla was a chosen mate, and even that hurt more than I expected.
