Damien's POV
I wanted to say all of that to shut the vampire down, call him out for the liar he is, but I still couldn’t catch my breath. The words stayed trapped in my chest. This leech is just trying to drive a wedge between us. I know Trey. I trust him. I have to trust him.
But all I could do was lie there, helpless, and watch.
The vampire's nails extended, long, razor-sharp, and lethal-looking, more dangerous than any wolf’s claws I had ever seen. He was preparing to strike, and for the first time, a flicker of real concern crept in.
I wasn’t worried earlier, but now? Now I was. The Council rep was gone. They had waited for her to leave before making their move.
And suddenly, I knew we were on our own.
The vampire then started cutting Trey. He was moving so fast you couldn’t keep up with when the injuries were happening. Zach stepped forward to intercede on Trey’s behalf when a second vampire, just as large as the one dealing with Trey, jumped in front of him. He didn’t lay a hand
