The coldness in James's voice instantly silenced Chris and Mary.
Jenna turned pale, her eyes filled with panic as she looked at him. Was he saying that he believed Wendy was innocent, and all of this was her fault?
Tears welled in her eyes as she bit her lip.
Before she could speak, James's gaze darkened slightly, and he said, "I'll cover the costs. And if Ms. Vance decides to press charges, I'll hire the best lawyer for Jenna and handle it properly."
Jenna's voice trembled as she choked back a sob. "Thank you, James. I know this is all my fault. If going to prison can ease Wendy's anger, then it's worth it—even if I'm the one suffering."
Her timid, pitiful tone softened James's stern expression. In the end, he couldn't stay cold.
Jenna saw the flicker of warmth in his eyes and knew that she had won again. James would never let her go to jail.
Mary sighed. "If only Wendy hadn't taken everything back then... Well, it's too late now. Still, with how things have turned out for Jenn
