Jenna followed James out of the car, trying to comfort him. Inwardly, however, she was thoroughly irritated that her plans for the night had been botched. Robert's attending physician had always been Raymond Carrington from City General Hospital. He was the department head, in his 50s, and considered half a mentor to Wendy. He was also once a student sponsored by Robert himself. Knowing that Wendy was Robert's granddaughter-in-law, Raymond called her before taking the case. Wendy had the day off and was already getting ready for bed, but she rushed to the hospital when she got the call. Both Raymond and Wendy knew Robert's condition well. Because Robert's collapse this time was particularly serious, Raymond made a rare exception and allowed Wendy to assist in the surgery.
