The next morning, we met with Agent Carter at a secure location, laying out the plan in detail. Carter listened intently, his expression unreadable as we explained our strategy. When we were finished, he leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled beneath his chin.
“It’s risky,” he said finally, echoing Kai’s earlier concerns. “But I agree that it might be our best shot at getting Marcus out into the open. He’s cunning, but he’s also prideful. If he thinks he’s won, he won’t be able to resist coming out to gloat.”
“We’ll need full coordination with your team,” Kai said, his tone firm. “Every possible exit needs to be covered. We can’t give him a chance to slip away.”
Carter nodded. “Agreed. I’ll assemble a task force to oversee the operation. We’ll also need to craft a believable scenario that will draw Marcus in. Something that plays into his expectations.”
