Elijah froze for a moment before crying even harder.
The atmosphere in the dilapidated church was incredibly awkward. Sensing the tension, Jeremiah stepped outside to walk around, while I continued to clean and dress Elijah's wounds.
Finally, I finished bandaging him and wiped the sweat off my forehead. "Can you stand up?"
Elijah tried to stand, but his face twisted in pain, and he faltered.
I sighed and supported him, allowing him to lean all his weight on my shoulder.
He leaned against me, limping slowly toward the exit. Each time he moved, the weight on my shoulder increased.
I had never realized how heavy a man could be. At five feet five inches, I couldn't carry his weight at all.
After what felt like forever, we finally reached the church door, and Jeremiah walked over. He saw me supporting Elijah and started chuckling.
