Bethany grabbed a spare mattress and a blanket from the shelf and laid them on the floor for Silas.
She felt bad about it, but he was dangerous enough to warrant the caution. If she asked him to sleep on the same bed, he would definitely read too much into it.
By laying down the mattress herself, she nipped his dirty thoughts in the bud.
"Goodnight."
Around midnight, Bethany heard coughing in her sleepy, groggy state. Rubbing her eyes, she noticed Silas curled up into a ball on the floor.
She checked the time. The air conditioning was turned off, yet the room was freezing.
Pursing her lips, she glanced at the thin blanket on the floor and felt bad again. If Silas fell ill, would he make her foot his medical bill?
Bethany gave him a gentle nudge. "Hey, Silas."
Silas opened his eyes. "Huh? What's wrong?"
"Well…" She trailed off before gritting her teeth. "Sleep on the bed. I wouldn't want you to catch a cold."
