Whispers followed us as we entered—wolves turned to look, heads bowed slightly, eyes sharp. I could feel every gaze like a blade on my back.
Damien placed a hand at the small of my back—not too possessive, not too soft. Just claiming enough.
I walked like a Luna. Chin up. Gown flowing. My expression stayed the same, that practiced smile my mom had taught me.
“Is that really her?”

“Didn’t she disappear after those rumors about her and Alpha Damien?”
I saw a Luna from the Crimson Pines Pack lean toward another. “I heard she’s just a contract. Temporary.”
