(Scarlett's POV)
My phone buzzed on the desk, the sharp vibration breaking the quiet of my office. Looking at the screen, I saw Alexander’s name glaring at me, his impatience practically oozing through the display. I sighed, picking it up with reluctant fingers, already bracing myself for another self-righteous demand.
“Scarlett!” His voice came through, rough and desperate. It wasn’t his usual tone, and it made me pause. “You need to come.”
I frowned, my annoyance tempered only slightly by his unusual urgency. “And why would I do that, Alexander? I don’t recall owing you anything anymore.”
“Grace,” he said hurriedly. “Her condition is worsening. It’s… it’s bad.”
“So?”
That single word, drenched in indifference, hung in the air for a long moment.
“Please,” he finally blurted out. His arrogance shattered, leaving only the panic of someone who was out of options. “Just come to the healing den. She might…” His voice cracked. “I think she might not make it.”
