"Yeah, this is my place in Seattle."
"You're not planning on moving, are you? Every piece of furniture, this whole minimalist vibe... you picked it all out yourself, didn't you?" Derek asked softly. His perceptiveness made Tabitha stiffen slightly.
She nodded. "Seattle is where my roots are. I wanted a sanctuary that belongs entirely to me."
That was why she'd spent a fortune installing a state-of-the-art medical suite in the basement—just in case.
Hearing that made Derek's chest ache with a dull, nagging pain. "Tabitha, I'm so sorry."
He thought about the ruins of the Silver Moons after they fell. Her family estate had been mortgaged, and even though it was eventually bought back, it wasn't a home anymore.
Their old house together had been a prison of cold indifference, and the beach villa had been tainted by Daphne's scent.
But here, there were no shadows of the Black Thorns. Everything here was hers.
"It's in the past. I'll go fix you something to eat."
