Chapter 302 It’s Going So Well That You Got Chased Out?
Beep.
Beep.
Her phone began buzzing all of a sudden.
Sophia grabbed her phone and saw that it was Charles calling her. “What?”
“How are you doing at the office?” Charles asked.
Sophia lowered her eyes as she replied, “It’s… Going well...”
Newbies were probably always treated this way.
“Really?” There was a hint of amusement in his voice. “It’s going so well that you got chased out?”
Sophia, “...”
She pursed her lips and checked her surroundings with her phone gripped tightly in her hand.
Honk!
A Bentley was cruising along slowly behind her about ten or so meters away and had honked at the sight of her. A few pedestrians strayed beside the Bentley, taking pictures and videos.
From the looks of it, it seemed that the Bentley had been following her for some time now. Otherwise, there would not be this big of a crowd.
She had been too immersed in her thoughts to notice her surroundings.
#Wow! Is this how the rich and handsome men coax an angry girlfriend?#
#A Bentley driving along the sidewalk begging for his girlfriend’s forgiveness!#
Sophia could almost imagine the headlines on all the gossip columns and news outlets once the photos and videos were posted.
She turned around and walked toward the Bentley, opened the door, and got into the car. “... Are you really that bored?”
“I honked earlier, but you just dodged away without even looking.” Charles simply explained as he maneuvered the car back into the lane and stepped on the accelerator.
Sophia, “...”
She thought she had been blocking the car behind her.
Though, the embarrassing thing was that she had told him she was doing alright at the office but her lie was exposed right away.
“What are you doing here?” Sophia quickly stirred the topic away.
“I wasn’t far away and was thinking that you wouldn’t be doing too well at the office, so I came over,” Charles replied.
The topic was stirred back once again.
Sophia kept quiet. Whether it was in the past or present, she hated the feeling of being looked down on. Hearing Charles’ words only made her feel that he had never believed in her.
“It’s not that I don’t have faith in you,” Charles said.
It was not the first time he had seen through her words, but every time it happened, her heart would begin racing. It was an indescribable feeling… There was a little bit of panic but at the same time, there was a bigger sense of feeling that she could not make out exactly.
“Your working abilities have nothing to do with why Maisie is treating you like this. Her problem is who you are.”
“What about me?” Sophia looked at him in confusion.
At that moment, the sun was shining right through the window. The golden light cast upon his face, highlighting his handsome facial features that seemed as exquisite as an artist’s sculpture.
Her lashes fluttered rapidly, and she quickly looked away.
“Maisie is an old employee of White Industries as well as the right-hand personnel of your grandparents. Like your grandparents, she dislikes your father. Hence, she dislikes your father even more ever since he parachuted in White Industries out of nowhere and took over the company.
“Your father has proved himself somewhat capable, and maybe that’s the reason they have fewer conflicts and quarrels nowadays. However, you’re still your father’s daughter, and you had parachuted in the same way he did back then, so it’s only natural for Maisie to dislike you,” Charles said.
Sophia furrowed her brows slightly. “An old employee?”
The director looked like a young middle-aged woman, though. How long had she been working in White Industries?
“She should be around 50 years old now, but I have heard talks about how she looks very young for her age.” Charles tilted his head and looked at her. He freed one of his hands suddenly and touched her head.
Sophia dodged his hand subconsciously and looked straight at him.
