"This is beautiful." Madeline breathed, purring over the mink coat that I had given her.
I grunted, not interested in saying a word. Madeline had paid me a visit but I would have preferred it if she wasn't here. I would like to be alone.
I was too nervous to know what Albert would find out about Amelia that I didn't have the energy to be civil.
I also had to think of what else I would do if Albert didn't find anything on her. Madeline couldn't have found a much worse day to pay me a visit.
"Thank you." She gushed.
I winced. That was the fourth time she would be telling me that in the last five minutes since I gave it to her. She was making me feel like I had never given her anything before. I wished she would shut up before I start regretting handing over the coat to her.
"Can you stop saying that?"
She nodded. "I was only happy."
