Curtis' brow furrowed, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
"What's wrong? Are you worried we're going bankrupt or something? You're picking at your food like a bird. Who exactly are you trying to save it for?"
He ladled some soup into a bowl and set it down in front of Marceline. The chef had prepared it with their health in mind.
"Drink up."
Beatrice's expression darkened. "You might've meant well, but the way you spoke was nasty. If Marceline ever leaves you, you'll have no one to blame but yourself."
Curtis watched as Marceline took a few sips. He quietly added more of her favorite dishes to her plate, deliberately avoiding the crab.
"If she ever tries to leave, I'll break her legs and lock her up."
Marceline froze. The thought was absurd, yet somehow, she knew Curtis was more than capable of it.
She had no appetite, but kept her head down and ate in silence.
