The next morning began long before the sun rose, Emma and several healers from the Neutral Hospital were already in the main hall, carrying in bolts of fabric, trays of jewels, and books were so ancient and the leather covers were soft as worn leaves.
By the time I stepped out of the room Simon had given me, the entire Pack house seemed alive with movement.
It was as if the whole pack had been waiting for this moment, and now that it had come, no one wanted to waste a second.
I paused at the top of the staircase, overwhelmed by the sight. Warriors who had faced death hours ago stood in full alert, guarding the entrances; Messengers hurried back and forth, arms full of scrolls; Seamstresses carried mannequins draped in shimmering white silk.
