Simon's POV
Damn mate bond.
One second, she had me fuming, and the next, I was holding back a laugh at her adorable frustration.
Aisha was a paradox. blunt, fearless, and completely unimpressed by my rank. Teasing her was quickly becoming my new favorite pastime. But when I called her my mate, she looked…shocked.
Not the kind of surprise that came from unexpected good news, but the kind that carried disbelief.
Fear.
That gnawed at me.
My wolf stirred uneasily. "She doesn't have a wolf," he finally admitted. "I can't sense hers at all."
I stiffened. What?
Every werewolf had a wolf spirit inside them, it was part of their identity, their strength. For her to not have one…
