The moment Grace stepped inside, she heard Cliff wailing again. Even though he was loud, his eyes were completely dry as he sat on Peter's lap and locked eyes with his grandfather.
Peter sighed. "Kid, don't you get tired?"
Cliff howled in response. Meanwhile, Grace raised an eyebrow and asked, "He's crying again?"
Peter shook his head. "You can't say 'again.' You should be asking, 'What round of crying is this?'" He tried to nudge the little baby off, clearly exhausted.
Babysitting was giving him a headache. Yet, when the housekeeper offered to take Cliff, Peter hesitated—he did not actually want to let go.
The moment Cliff saw Grace, he perked up, instantly excited. As soon as she took him into her arms, he grinned from ear to ear. "Mama!"
Grace turned to Peter. "Dad, I'm taking Cliff home with me in a bit."
"Back to Everglade Villa?" Peter looked at his chubby grandson, clearly reluctant. "Why don't you just stay?" He really did not want to let the little guy go.
