"Elean, we need to talk." Alexander's voice was hoarse and dry from a sleepless night and sheer nerves.
Eleanor turned upon hearing his voice. The moment she saw who it was, her brows drew together, her expression tightening into wariness and distance.
She looked at him as though he were an unwelcome trespasser.
"Mr. Grant? What are you doing here? There's nothing for us to talk about."
Her coldness hit Alexander like a bucket of ice water.
He stepped forward, his voice trembling. His words were nearly incoherent as he pulled out his phone to show her what he'd found.
"Elean, please listen to me. I've figured everything out. Amelia and her family—what they did, I know now! I was wrong about you.
"The thing in the garden that year, the lighting rig at the club, even your mother's accident—it wasn't an accident. It was them. I was blind and stupid. They tricked me—"
Eleanor lifted a hand to stop him. Her gaze was cold and indifferent. "So what?"
Alexander froze, the words dying
