Chapter 149: Can't Perform
Just as I was scrambling for something to say, the elevator chimed and the doors slid open. I seized the moment, shoved Arthur back, and stepped out before he could react.
He snapped back to himself, glaring at me with clear irritation, but he didn't say a word. He didn't have time to. The client we were meeting was already waiting in the conference room.
Arthur strode past me without another glance and pushed the door open. I followed behind him, my heart still racing.
The client was a young woman dressed like she'd just stepped off a magazine cover. The second she spotted Arthur, her eyes lit up like Christmas.
"Mr. Sandlin, finally. I've been waiting forever."
She practically glided toward him, hand outstretched in greeting.
Arthur gave her a quick, polite smile, shook her hand for a single second, then let go and took the head seat.
"Jane, you look sharp today," he said smoothly. Then, without missing a beat, he took the contract from me and handed it over.
