Jeffery recognized the scarf as my handiwork, because I always stitched a star in the bottom-right corner of everything I knit, with one point done in red thread.
He never bothered to wear anything I knitted, yet that little star had left such a mark on him that when he saw Clay's post, it sparked a sense of familiarity. After reading through the comments between Clay and his friends, he was certain the scarf had come from me.
At that moment, a strange panic washed over him. He couldn't shake the feeling that something precious was slipping away, so he called me right away.
"Sienna, answer me. Why did you give Mr. Burke a scarf? When did you two meet? Are you that close?"
When he noticed my hesitation, his voice turned cold, and he pressed me for an answer.
I was done being interrogated like a criminal.
"What does that have to do with you?" I snapped. "Don't forget, Jeffery, that we're divorced."
"We're not divorced. We agreed it was just for show, and we'd remarry in a month,"
