Simone locked eyes with Rosalie, radiating the kind of pressure forged in battlefields and gunfire.
Most women would have faltered, but Rosalie stood firm. Her back was straight, her eyes clear and unyielding.
Simone narrowed her eyes.
Rosalie was braver than that soft look suggested. Maybe that was what Julian liked.
When Simone stayed silent, Rosalie spoke up first, her tone impatient. "Do you need anything else? If not, I'm going back to my husband."
"Did Julian ever tell you about our past?" Simone asked.
Rosalie pressed her lips together. "No."
Simone gave a cold laugh. "Of course, he didn't. You can go."
The remark sat wrong. Rosalie reached the door, then turned back. "Dr. Brooke, I know you're Julian's friend. Whatever you feel about him, he's married now. I hope you want what's good for us."
She paused for a moment and then added coldly, "If we end up divorced, that won't be good for him."
With that, she walked out and closed the door.
