One Week Later
The beep of the monitor no longer bothered me. It no longer scared me. No longer pulled me out of half-sleep. No longer made my heart jolt with fear the way it had the first few days.
I had gotten used to it. Totally.
The steady rhythm of it had become background noise now, like the ticking of a clock in a room you’d been trapped in for too long.
It had been a week. One full week since we arrived at Blackwood Manor. And honestly, nothing had changed. At least, not much.
Roman was still unconscious. He was still not moving. He was still silent. And I was still here, hoping and praying and practically begging for a change. Anything. Even if it's the twitch of a finger.
These days, I spend every single hour with him. Literally every hour. I only left his side to have breakfast and dinner, and even then, I ate like I was being timed, sprinting back here afterward like demons and the gates of hell were chasing me. And maybe they were.
