The SUV door clicked shut behind Morgana, and just like that—we were alone.
Cue the silence.
Not the peaceful kind. The thick, suffocating kind.
The kind that settles between two people who have way too much history and zero interest in unpacking it right now.
Caesar tapped his fingers against the steering wheel like it owed him money. Then cleared his throat. Twice.
"The back seat's empty now," he said, voice casual—too casual. "You can move up front if you want."
I didn't even hesitate. "I'm good back here."
My wolf gave a soft, guilt-trippy whine in the back of my mind, but I shut her down with the emotional equivalent of a deadbolt.
We were not playing the 'go sit closer to the hot Alpha' game tonight.
