"How about Mary, then?" Richard asked in the tone of an elder, sounding both helpless and resigned. "I've spoiled her too much. She's willful, far too naïve, and tends to see things in black and white. She believes anything my wife says. I'm embarrassed you had to see the mess we've created."
Lily honestly didn't know how to respond to that. She was furious—he was the one who raised her to be so naïve and willful, and yet he was now turning around and treating it like a flaw.
