I followed another hostess, Alia Lewington, to Room 705. When I stepped foot in that room, I realized Eva was right. These young people from wealthy families touched everything with curiosity as though they had never seen anything like it, and their eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Elara, why did you change into new clothes after coming back from the outside?"
I watched a lady in a yellow dress, who was ready to sing into the microphone, question another lady in a cream dress.
"Vivian, I accidentally wet my dress in the restroom, so I had to change!"
I learned their names—Elara and Vivian. I silently set up the fruit platter on the table and poured the decanted red wine.
I knew which side of me to show to a mixed-gender group that also consisted of noblewomen.
Like a thoughtful older sister, I flashed them a friendly smile. "Ladies, do you want to sing? I can put in the songs you want!"
"Great! I fiddled with this machine for half a day, but I can't figure it out.
