The road to the Sanctuary of Dawn was silent but alive, the air thick with mist and the scent of untamed magic.
I was beside Andres in our car and Luciano was on my lap, his face pressing against my chest while Andres was holding us close in his warmth.
Luciano’s curls glimmered faintly under the moonlight, one eye reflecting pale moonlight, the other a gemstone hue that never failed to unsettle me with its unnatural brilliance.
“Papa…” Luciano murmured sleepily, his small hand clutching mine. “The mist… it’s whispering again.”
Andres stiffened, his jaw tightening. “Do you hear it, little wolf?”
Luciano nodded, blinking up at us. “It says… it says the shadows are lonely.”
I swallowed hard, gripping the reins. The Sanctuary was meant to be safe. It was meant to shield him, to protect him from what I had already felt lingering in the Moonwell. Yet, the child’s voice echoed a truth I could not ignore: this was only the beginning…
