The next morning, as I was tidying up our things, my daughter woke up.
“Where are we, Mom?” Hannah asked, looking around the room with wide eyes.
I turned to her and smiled. “We’re at Dr. Morgan’s condo,” I answered softly.
She walked over to me and hugged my neck. “Why are we here?”
I gently caressed her face, explaining, “The rain was too heavy last night, and Dr. Morgan’s car engine broke down. His condo is nearby, so he offered us a place to stay until the rain stopped.”
“Then I must thank Dr. Morgan later,” she said with a smile, her innocent, carefree gray eyes looking up at me.
As I gazed into Hannah’s gray eyes, my mind involuntarily replayed the absurd kiss from last night, and the flood of emotions that came with it.
Hannah was right—it was only fair to thank Noah. Not only had he offered us a ride home, but he had also opened his home to shelter us from the rain. Yet, I couldn’t bring myself to thank him.
