Sara's thoughts skidded to a halt—she didn't dare go further, not ready to face what that might mean.
Spencer had clearly said it was a business dinner with clients to discuss a project. So, why was Clementine there? And why did she send him a message thanking him afterward? Was there still something between them?
Since she'd come back, neither of them had mentioned Clementine. It was as if that part of their past—the part that once led to their divorce—had never existed. All this time, she had never seen them contact each other.
Spencer said he loved her, and she had believed him without question. She believed he had handled everything before saying those words. But now—what was this supposed to mean?
Sara bit her lip hard, face pale, and gently placed the phone back on the bed. Then, she sat there in a daze, staring ahead blankly.
After a while, the door opened. Spencer had finished his shower.
"Darling, dry my hair for me," he said, walking in with a dry towel in hand.
