Chapter 274

After brushing his teeth, Spencer exhaled into his palm to check his breath, worried Sara might smell the cigarette on him. Once he was sure the scent was gone, he opened the bathroom door. He padded over to the bed, gently lifted the blanket, and slid in beside her. Wrapping his arm around her, he pulled her close. Even though he had tried to be as quiet as possible, Sara stirred slightly in her sleep. She hadn't really slept well. Without Spencer beside her, she had stayed in a light doze all night. Although he had called earlier to say he would be out late for a dinner engagement and told her not to wait, the quiet house still made it hard to fully relax. After dinner, she had taken Cameron and Nora for a short walk in the garden, then chatted with Oswin for a bit before getting the kids bathed and ready for bed. These days, both kids had started sleeping on their own. The last summer camp had been a great success, especially for Nora, who had grown noticeably more independent.
