Chapter 9
Flashing ambulance lights cut through the night.
Wendy lay curled up on the stretcher, her pale face etched with fear.
Yves gripped Wendy's hand so tightly that his knuckles turned white. Meanwhile, Bryant and Daphne stayed close. They were anxious and tense, constantly checking on Wendy to make sure she wasn't in any pain or discomfort.
"Why aren't we there yet? How much farther is the hospital?" Yves muttered, eyes flicking toward the endless string of red lights ahead. He grew impatient and urged them to drive faster.
Just then, Wendy violently coughed in his arms.
Yves immediately comforted her, saying, "Don't worry, we're almost there." He leaned down, held her close, and gently patted her back.
Wendy looked at the three of them with teary eyes. "Yves... Mom, Dad... I seriously thought I'd never see you again. I was so scared…"
After hearing that, Daphne's heart twisted. She stroked Wendy's shaking back and said, "Maybe… It's time for Yves and Zoey to get a divorce. Yo
