I lifted my head and looked out the window again. The amusement park, quiet and still like a pond at dusk, was now lit up with lights, and cheers drifted through the air.
Conrad looked out too, his voice barely above a whisper as he said, "It's working."
A technician called out, "Ms. Crown, Ms. Crown, check this out!"
I turned to look at the computer screen, where the lights began to create lines and uneven patterns.
"There's still a problem," Conrad said, his brow furrowing.
I stared at the screen for a moment before rushing out the door. As soon as I stepped outside, excited screams washed over me.
Visitors pointed at the flickering lights, yelling, "There are words up there!"
I lifted my head, my eyes locked on the shifting lights. Memories of Brandon's proposal flooded back. I'd been surrounded by a sea of streamers, all with the same message—"Mae, marry me."
"Mae, marry me!"
"It's a proposal!"
"Who's Mae?"
"Oh wow! This is so romantic! I wish someone would propose to me
