Chapter 77
Anna and Julian were well and truly stuck here. The sun had dipped below the horizon, and the peaceful forest had turned eerie, filled with low animal growls that gave off a seriously creepy vibe.
Luckily, things hadn't gone completely south—they managed to find a cave just in time. It wasn't huge, about enough room for five adults to squeeze in. The orange glow of the fire lit up Anna's face, revealing just how anxious she was.
She'd gotten the fire from their wrecked car—what was left of it, at least. After that explosion, pretty much only the frame was intact, with small flames still flickering here and there. Someone had died over there. Anna wouldn't have gone if she hadn't absolutely needed to, but being the only one mobile, she'd forced herself to do it.
Julian leaned against the wall of the cave, eyes half-shut, deep in thought.
Anna had been trying to process everything in silence, but those animal growls shattered the calm, and all she felt now was fear.
With wide, alert eyes
