By the time they left the island, night had fallen. Unlike the serene and leisurely atmosphere of the island, the outside world was bustling with activity, a hive of cars and people.
Allyson Fisher had already arranged a car, waiting at the dock to take them straight to the CBD. Despite the late hour, the skyscrapers were still brightly lit.
Callie gazed out of the car window. Nothing seemed to have changed much here. The endless flow of workers still pressed forward, chasing after the so-called dream.
“What are you thinking about?” Allyson asked, casually touching up her makeup in the mirror, her gaze flickering sideways.
“Just remembering the past. I used to work around here,” Callie replied.
Allyson raised her eyebrows, surprised. “The little princess actually had to work?”
It seemed Allyson didn’t know much about her past, which was just as well. Callie nodded. “Life wasn’t easy. I started the nine-to-five grind as soon as I graduated. Overtime was a regular thing
